Care “Free” in Paris: Eating Guide for Allergies and Restrictions

Paris is a vast world of culinary delicacies and fine craftmanship in a country that offers some of the finest wines, cheeses and breads found on this earth.  As this fuels the passion of many « foodies » around the world, this is not, however, good news for everyone.

In this modern day, we find ourselves in cities full of people with unique tastes, convictions and even dietary restrictions. Whether it be allergies/intolerance or simply choosing to live a healthy, eco-friendly lifestyle, you may hit some challenges head on.  As someone who lived, gluten free for a year and a half, I can attest to the potential frustration of living in this  “not so allergy friendly” environment.

The population of vegetarians, vegans, non-dairy eaters and even “raw-fooders” has given way to the wave of newly immerging dining options for the  “sensitive”  eater; not to mention the array of Gluten Free spots that are popping up. Thank heavens for gluten-free bread in France!  Although not every location is completely « free » of allergens, many offer the option, and it’s always a good idea to call ahead to see if that’s the case. Many locations offering these alternative menus work directly with local sourcing and create options based on what’s fresh that season. This is how is should be!

I also find people in these communities are very open minded and happy to share information.  Inspired by this latest topic, I decided to stop by Bob’s Juice Bar for a seaweed roll and fresh juice. That’s when I met Micah, a charming fellow from South Carolina who is in Paris to promote his raw, gluten-free, vegan, superfood CHOCOLATE. He shared a taste and it was divine!  Did I mention he makes it himself?

Here is our list of “alternative” dining options in Paris.  If we missed any of your favorites, please share it with us!
