Bistro des Dames | A Great Summer Spot
This past week, we have had some really beautiful weather here in Paris which means that everyone is constantly searching for great outdoor dining spots. After stumbling upon this restaurant with its beautiful hidden terrace last week, Bistro des Dames is definitely high up on my list.
The restaurant is affiliated with the Hotel Eldorado in the Batignolles area of the 17th arrondissement. From the outside, and even the inside for that matter, the restaurant doesn’t really seem like much but if you wind downstairs, past the kitchen and into the calm, bamboo-filled courtyard, you will realize why this is such an in-demand spot.
Not only is the atmosphere great but the food is excellent. The menu has a good variety of starters, large salads, mains and deserts but it was the specials, 3-4 per course, that really caught our attention. We started our meal with an order of the melon and Serrano ham, a combination that is hard to disappoint. This was accompanied by a chilled cucumber soup with feta mousse that was refreshing and delicious.
For our main courses we had the magret du canard which was roasted in grape sauce with a spoonful of potato puree. The duck was cooked to perfection and the sauce was deliciously sweet. We also devoured the mi-cuit de thon marine aux aromates asiatiques from the standard menu. The tuna was a bit more cooked that we would have preferred but the flavors were superb and the plate was cleaned.
The menu is solid, service was pleasant but what really makes Bistro des Dames a coveted address is the atmosphere in the courtyard. This is a great local summer spot but be sure to come early as they do not accept reservations for parties under 5 people.
