Why we Love Paris in August

August in Paris is the only time of the year where you really feel like you have the City of Light all to yourself. The Parisians pack up their bikinis, kids, and dogs, and head to the countryside or down south to the beach. Many restauranteurs and most boulangeries close up for the month, leaving a few select choices for us to enjoy, ultimately making our decision of where to eat out next much easier! Some people are reluctant to spend their summer holiday in Paris during August, and we can understand why......

Neighborhood Guide | Montreuil

Montreuil may seem like a strange choice to write a neighborhood guide on when you live in a city like Paris, but don’t be fooled as there are some very quirky hidden gems to discover if and when you find yourself in la banlieue. Foodies and connoisseurs alike are being drawn to the suburban town which has decided to boost it’s reputation with a kick start from Paris’ continually growing gourmet food scene. Watch out Paris, because Montreuil could just become the 21st arrondissement!     The historically communist town is home to some......

In case you haven’t seen all of those colorful Instagrams of the latest trendy cafe/resto, we’ll let you in on a little secret: it’s Le Pavillon des Canaux.  This atypical house turned restaurant gives us a whole new take on the cafe/resto/bar scene in Paris. Big open doors welcome you to the space that is colorfully painted by street artists Supakitch and Alex One.  Every room...

It is well known that the SFP Team love their coffee and their cocktails so you can only imagine the excitement when we heard buzz of a new place that combined both under one roof! The eagerly anticipated Lockwood opened its doors just before the holiday season and we popped in for a coffee and a cocktail with our friend Meg of De Quelle Planète Es-Tu? Lockwood is a coffee shop by day, cocktail bar by night hybrid opened by the three Lehoux brothers who have earned some serious street cred......

In search of a lunch spot last week, two friends and I made a last minute reservation at Beaucoup, a new-ish addition to the northern Marais dining scene. Our first impression was that this place was taken straight out of NYC with its high ceiling, huge dining room (by Parisian standards) and very friendly, smiling service. They even asked us to wait at the bar while they prepared our table! Unfortunately we were not seated at the fabulous blue sofa tables but the standard chairs were fabulously comfortable as we settled in......

When most people think of Paris, an image that immediately comes to mind is sipping a glass of wine outside at a café. The French know their wine and finding a good bottle of French wine is easy in Paris. Of course, Parisians also drink beer and large brands such as 1664 or Kronenbourg are all over. But finding a beer of the same caliber as a vintage Bordeaux has been, until recently, incredibly difficult. Since the end of last year, however, it seems as though that is all changing. The craft......

In search of a romantic night out, we popped into the relatively recently opened Sherry Butt in the early hours of the evening for a nice cocktail and some munchies. It looks like a spot straight out of Brooklyn. The atmosphere is a perfect marriage between the uber-crowded and fashionable cocktail bars of Saint-Germain and the underground hipster hangouts of the Bastille. The industrial feel of the bar stools and cinderblock walls is juxtaposed with comfortable velvet couches and lounge chairs and low mood lighting. Hip but not so hip that it......

For the second edition of our Neighborhood Guide series we move from the 9th arrondissement further south to a pedestrian-dominated, uber-trendy quartier of shopping and lunching known as Montorgueil. Montorgueil is located in the 2nd arrondissement loosely between the metros Sentier and Etienne Marcel. Rue Montorgueil is one of Paris’ classic market streets and is always filled with daily shoppers picking up their fish, meats and vegetables. The small street (only about 5 blocks long) also has a great number of dining and drinking spots. The real gems in this area, however,......
