Papergoods in Paris

This week I thought I’d check out the hidden gems of Paris in terms of stationary, paper goods, and gifty trinkets.  As easy as it has become to just send e-cards and do all of your contacts via the internet, why not spruce up your lines of communication by sending someone a little snail mail, or hand printing your own style of calligraphy?  With these funky stores you’ll find all you need to make and send the perfect message:

Papier Tigre is one of the most talked about and well known shops in Paris.  Known for their cool stationary and artsy accessories, Paper Tigre runs a booming shop while also distributing its products in Parisian department stores.  In the bright store that is home to many a graphic designer’s work you’ll find paper products that are perfect for living rooms, bedrooms, offices, and even kitchens!  There are, of course, pretty cards to send, beautiful notebooks for doodling, and tons of clever accessories made from recycled paper.

5 rue des Filles du Calvaire

L’Illustre is the place to go if you’re looking for paintings:  Big ones, small ones, linographies , collages, ink, watercolor, and colored pencil. This is the most varied place when it comes to looking for contemporary illustrations, which are all original and often limited edition pieces.  This boutique also stocks beautiful stationary and other decorative items including jewelry holders, picture frames, and desk organizers.  Illustre is a kind of art gallery which caters to both whimsical and practical shoppers.

Sergeant Papier, which had originally started as a gallery, now houses the work of young artists, illustrators, and graphic designers in all mediums.  You’ll find everything from street art to typography to print art to decorate your walls, but you’ll also find dishes, tote bags, and cool brand shirts designed by Sergeant Cotton.  One of their shirt catch phrases is “My mom is smart, she buys art!” which captures the mindset at Sergeant Papier.  I’m a huge fan of their surrealist works and pencil drawings, and there’s something sure to please everyone at this diverse and well stocked shop.

38 Rue Quincampoix

This is a top notch place to go when you’re looking for cards, fine paper, and personalized gift ideas. Their selection of cards is incredibly unique and diverse.  Beautiful paper, pens, and calligraphy supplies set this shop apart.  Here you can buy ready made products or you can buy the supplies needed to make your cards, stationary, or paper goods. This is the perfect place to take friends who are visiting from out of town and want to take a walk through the Marais and find non-traditional postcards.

10 Rue Pont Louis Philippe

This store is one of a kind–seriously!  The Atelier is the only place in Paris that uses a hand stamp press and they hand paint all of their stamps before pressing them onto paper–the coolest stamps I’ve seen!  They sell amazing greeting cards, memo pads, and journals.  Everything is produced by hand in the back of the Atelier, so you know you’re getting genuine quality and one of a kind prints. To add to the awesome factor, they are known for the work they do for Francis and Sophia Coppola (yes you read that correctly!)

17 Rue Eugène Varlin

  2. I am a serious paper junkie and loved this post. Added a few of them to my to-do list!

  3. I love Melodies Graphiques! I bought a beautiful journal there made with Florentine paper. Thanks for the other addresses.
