Christmas Markets | November 15 – January 4

It’s hard to believe that it’s that time of year again! The Christmas markets are opening! The biggest one in Paris, on the Champs-Elysées, opens November 15th, with over 100 adorable wooden chalets, selling everything from hot wine and churros, to mittens and hats, to ornaments and trinkets. The other larger, well-known markets take place at the Place des Abbesses in the 18th arrondissement and Place Saint Sulpice in the 6th arrondissement.


Beaujolais Nouveau | November 19

Every year on Beaujolais Nouveau Day, the Parisians flock to their local bars selected by Beaujolais to sample the new wine produced from the Beaujolais region. A traditionally fruity red wine, Beaujolais has become immensely popular both in France and abroad. The wine is released at 12:01am and the day is celebrated with fireworks and music.

In its 40th year, the Salon Marjolaine is the biggest organic fair in Paris, comprised of over 500 booths selling everything from produce and dairy to wines and teas to beauty and cleaning products, and many more! Be sure to carry cash with you, as none of the vendors accept card on site.

From 5-9 of November in the heart of the Parc des Expositions, visitors can take part in a variety of photography workshops and demonstrations at the increasingly popular Salon de la Photo. The lessons are helpful and wide-ranging, taking in skills as diverse as image capture, photo development, and digital retouching. All the big-name photography brands will be on hand to present their latest technological innovations. There will also be specially curated exhibits on topics such as Japanese photography and silver film, while artists such as Lauren Monlaü, Bettina Rheims, and Georges Rousse will present various public talks and debates.

Demonstrations, tastings, talks and delicacy workshops will take place throughout these three days, which are dedicated to the Art of Gourmandise. Renowned chocolate makers and confectioners will display their creations against the exceptional backdrop of Vaux-le-Vicomte,  the largest private property in France classified as a Historical Monument. 12,000 visitors are expected for this 8th annual event.

The Philharmonie de Paris exhibition Marc Chagall: The Triumph of Music explores the artist’s creations for the stage, the décors and architectural works he was commissioned to produce, all somehow tied to music. The show brings together some three hundred artworks (paintings, drawings, costumes, sculptures and ceramics), with multimedia installations featuring the ceiling of the Paris Opera thanks to extraordinary technology developed by Google Lab, and photographs (for the most part previously unpublished), including those of Marc Chagall’s studio taken by Izis in the 1960s.

The exhibition Rodin: the Laboratory of Creation showcases a unique selection of some 150 plaster and terracotta works, many of which have never been seen before. Visitors will be shown the creative process and gain insight into Rodin’s way of thinking, the paths he followed, the troubles he encountered and his journey towards success.

A major new exhibit is coming to the Grand Palais at the beginning of October celebrating the work of Pablo Picasso. The exhibit will take a chronological yet thematic approach to his master pieces, teaming work of those influenced by the artist such as Hockney, Kippenberger etc, side by side with his. You will be taken on a whirlwind tour of all of Picasso’s major pieces of art work through different periods and times, from cubism to his large scale portraits. It is most certainly a highly anticipated event so reservations are recommended!
